About the event
This workshop is facilitated by Kerri Homerick of Psyche-Body-World, somatic practitioner and doctoral candidate in Jungian and archetypal depth psychology. Similar to dreaming while awake, the art of active imagination allows the images that personify the archetypal contents of the individual and collective unconscious to spontaneously emerge while the conscious ego witnesses, listens, and responds. Using a fundamentally somatic approach, soma, the living body, participates through acting as an incredibly alive and intelligent feedback system. Distinct from cognitive or behavioral techniques, active imagination operates within the symbolic dimension of experience, allowing individuals to encounter emotional and imaginal realities that often lie beyond the reach of rational thought and conscious defenses.
In Jungian psychology, active imagination is seen as an invaluable tool for individuation, healing, and cultivating a deep sense of belonging within oneself and with the more-than-human world. It is valued for its ability to bypass hyper-rationalization, the limitations of cognitive processing, and problems where we feel we have hit a wall, while also enriching creativity, empathy, and a respect for psychological diversity.
Nearly all wisdom traditions since the dawn of human history have practiced a version of this method—shaped and colored by each specific culture and milieu—suggesting that this practice has archetypal roots and adaptive value.
This 1.5-hour experiential workshop will include education, a guided active imagination process, journaling, and voluntary group sharing.
This workshop is best suited for seekers, creatives, those who want to know and understand themselves, others, and the world more deeply, and those who believe in the legitimacy and transformative potential of the imagination.
Disclaimer: Active imagination is a powerful depth psychological practice that invites exploration of the symbolic and unconscious dimensions of the psyche. Therefore, participants should feel confident in their ability to move into imaginal experience while maintaining the capacity to return to everyday reality and integrate the experience with grounded awareness.
Required Materials: A journal or notebook and a writing utensil. Extra-thick folding mats and eye masks will be provided by Kailin of Earth for the experience.
